These High-Protein Caramelized Pears Are Delicious Served With Vanilla Ice Cream

Ingredients
- 3 ripe pears
- 1 vanilla bean (optional)
- 1/2 cup whole hazelnuts (or filberts), toasted
- vanilla ice cream for serving
- dark chocolate curls (optional) for serving
- Simple Sauce
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp Frangelico (Frangelico is a hazelnut-flavoured liqueur; you could substitute amaretto or Kahlúa or simply fresh lemon juice.)

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Simple Sauce: Melt butter in a small pan over medium heat. Whisk in brown sugar until butter is melted. Remove from heat and whisk in Frangelico until smooth.
- Peel pears and slice in half vertically. Use a paring knife and/or melon baller to remove the stems and cores. Place, cut side up, in an 8- x 8-inch baking dish. Spoon butter mixture over each pear. Split vanilla bean (if using) in half lengthwise and place in pan. Bake for 30 minutes or until sauce is bubbly and pears are tender. Let cool slightly but serve warm with simple sauce and vanilla ice cream.
