McIntosh
This apple is a little bit tart and a little bit sweet. Excellent for eating fresh, and for making pies and homemade sauces.
Royal Gala
Because this variety is sweet, it’s great for eating fresh as a snack. Nice and crispy, it’s a kid’s lunchbox favourite!
Red Delicious
A classic variety, this apple is sweet and juicy-ideal for a snack or salads. It’s called “Delicious” for a reason. But it’s not a great cooking apple.
Crispin
A versatile choice; with its firm texture and sweet-tart taste, it’s good in pies and chunky homemade chutneys and sauces.
Golden Delicious
This apple is sweet so it makes a great snack, but unlike Red Delicious, it works well in home-baked pies, too; since it’s firm, it will keep its shape.
Cortland
An offspring of McIntosh apples, it is crispy and has a mild, sweet taste. It resists browning, making it a great choice for salads and fruit plates.
Idared
A tart apple, this variety will keep its robust flavour even when oven-baked. And it’s great for munching.
Prince
This one is tangy and sweet, crisp and juicy. It’s versatile: Have it as a snack or use it in salads, baking or sauces. It’s also an excellent addition to a cheese tray.
