Open your bottom dresser drawer and what do you see? Piles of basic workout leggings and tops that look as underwhelming as that 6 AM spin class sounds, probably.
When it comes to our fitness wardrobe, we tend to play it safe. We opt for black bottoms and a plain tank in a solid hue and deem other options subordinate. Pale pants? Oh no, those can’t be flattering! Juicy-bright pieces? You’ll see my sweat! But come September, the unofficial start of the new year, we’re going to have new fitness goals, and we’re going to need the motivation to achieve those goals. The solution? A fresh wardrobe addition or outfit that has the ability to make just about any situation—even a torturous training session—a little more appealing. (Here’s more motivation to stay active post-summer.)
So, here are eight ways you can update your fitness wardrobe for fall, featuring pieces by Canadian brands.
Opt for hotpants.
Show off your gams in a pair of high-waisted short shorts. Team them with the matching bra for a ‘gram-worthy look or go the comfy route with an oversized tee. (Looking for other new workout must-haves? Here’s some of the best fitness gear on the market right now.)

Push the lycra to the sidelines for something a little softer (and a little easier to slip on). This set is just as breathable (and quick to dry) as your go-to yoga pieces, but so much comfier. (Here are the new meditation studios in Toronto to try now.)
