The best beauty launches of 2017 deserve some lip service
Most work places and offices will look back at the year strategically (we do do that) and figure out what they can do differently next year (us too). But when the Best Health editors get together this time of year, we can’t help but reminisce about the great things about 2017 (as well as the stuff that raised our well-groomed brows, too). But one thing we love talking about is our favourite beauty products and the best beauty launches of 2017.
Have you checked out the Best Health Beauty Awards for 2017? You will love our picks.
The sweetest thing
Fresh is always known for high quality beauty products and skin care, but this one is a stand-out.
Canada launch date: November 2017
“I love the Fresh Sugar Lip products, especially during winter. They are super hydrating and the colour payoff is true to the tube. Plus, they have an amazing holiday collection that includes lip liners. It makes a great gift – for yourself.” Beth Thompson, editor-in-chief
Sugar Lip Beauty Box, $54 at sephora.ca.
Think you can’t pull off red lipstick? Think again – we found your perfect red.
Storm trooper vibes
Neutrogena blew up our social feeds this year with the launch of this light-therapy treatment.
Canada launch date: September 2017
“The most fun you’ll have facing off against breakouts and blemishes is also highly effective. The science behind this LED gadget uses blue light to kill acne-causing bacteria and red light to reduce inflammation. Designed to lead to a clearer complexion, each 10-minute-long treatment is also the perfect amount of time to craft a hilarious Instastory.” – Ingrie Williams, beauty and fashion director
Neutrogena Light Therapy Acne Mask, $45.97 at walmart.ca.
Body and mind
Yes, you can reinvent the wheel (the wheel being a body moisturizer), just like Nivea did with this innovative body oil.
Canada launch date: February 2017
“Lotion is a Canadian winter essential. I love this one because it absorbs quickly, doesn’t leave a greasy feeling and is ultra-hydrating thanks to shea butter.” – Courtney Reilly-Larke, associate editor
Q10 Body Oil + Avocado Oil, $6.97 at walmart.ca.
Ever had a full-body skin exam? This is what to expect (and not to expect).
A dry spell
Masking was a big 2017 trend (and not a body part was left without a treatment). But the dry mask – doesn’t drip, slide or make a mess – changed everything.
Canada launch date: March 3, 2017
“I drank the dry mask Kool-Aid. I mixed it. I added sugar. And I topped it with an umbrella. I am obsessed with this dry mask. It instantly gives my skin a glow – like most of Charlotte Tillbury’s products do – and gives the look of having had a full night’s sleep.” – Lisa Hannam, web editor
Charlotte Tilbury Revolutionary Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask, $27 at charlottetilbury.com.
Do not gloss over this
As soon as Glossier started shipping above the border, natural-looking beauty had us forgetting all about Instagram makeup and contouring.
Canada launch date: July 18, 2017
“I’ve been all about a sheer matte finish this year, so it’s safe to say that this lipstick quickly became my new fave. Whenever I wear this shade, it’s warm, subtle brown tint allows my natural lip colour to pop through, giving my pout that perfect my-lips-but-better feel. But what I really love about this is that it feels weightless, almost like a balm and is super build-able. It’s that go-to soft lip for a casual day at work or a night out with your gals.” – Alyssa Ball, assistant web editor
Glossier Generation G in Leo, $20 at glossier.com.
This lippy works, work, works, works, works
Rihanna launched Fenty Beauty in 2017 and the world dropped their lipsticks and took notice.
Canada launch date: September 8, 2017
“As if, earlier this year, launching a diversity-forward beauty brand – with plenty of melanin-rich foundation shades still sold out – wasn’t enough, Rhianna went and broke the Internet in late November by debuting the must-have holiday lippie. The deep scarlet shade is magic on all skin tones, and the formula is the lightest liquid kiss ever encountered. Plus, it has major staying power. Like Mary Poppins, it’s practically perfect in every way. TBH, the bulbous applicator is unwieldy. Still so worth it, but best to have a lip liner or lip brush handy to create a precise pout.” Ingrie Williams, beauty and style director
Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint Longwear Fluid Lip Color in Uncensored, $30, sephora.ca.
It’s gold baby
In a time where rose gold seems to matter most, this gold flecked lippy caught our eyes this year.
Canada launch date: October 2017
“With floating pieces of gold in the bullet, this lipstick was almost too pretty to use. I was actually very surprised with how it gives my lips a very healthy, natural pink colour. And this next-level is super hydrating, and has replaced my basic lip balm, because – why not?! – my day lipstick doesn’t have to be boring.” – Lisa Hannam, web editor
Lise Watier 24K Glam, $25 at mass retailers.
Did you know that gold is also used to detoxify skin? Here’s how.
