Zesty pasta side dish
Combine the juice and zest from a lemon with olive oil, toasted pine nuts and fresh parsley. Pour over hot cooked linguine and toss. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and black pepper.
Lunchtime salad
Top a mix of arugula and baby spinach with slices of peeled pink or ruby grapefruit, avocado, and smoked salmon or cooked shrimp. Top with a grapefruit juice and olive oil dressing.
Fresher dinner
Add lime juice to a coconut curry. Splash lemon onto any fish. Squeeze oranges over pork chops, or mash into sweet potatoes.
Sweet peels
Cut citrus fruit peels into long strips. Simmer in a mixture of sugar and water until tender. Cool. Chop the peel and mix into batter for scones, a raisin loaf or muffins. Or dip the strips in melted dark chocolate.
Brunch-perfect parfaits
In clear glasses, layer fruit salad made with grapefruit, clementines and blood oranges with Greek-style yogurt and your favourite granola. Top with chopped hazelnuts.
Versatile sauce
Combine orange juice, grated ginger and a little oil and soy sauce. Microwave until bubbling; spoon over grilled chicken breasts, fish or roast pork.
After-skating drinks
Add some clementine juice to a pot of apple cider. Toss in orange and lemon slices, cloves and cinnamon sticks. Simmer about 30 minutes; strain and enjoy.
Easy supper soup
Bring three cups (750 mL) of vegetable stock to a boil. Add two handfuls orzo pasta and a handful shredded chicken. Reduce heat and simmer until cooked. Stir in the juice of one lime, a handful chopped basil and two handfuls baby spinach.
