Sheer
If you’ve never tried bright colours, start with a sheer finish, like a tinted balm. “A translucent texture will add a subtle tint of colour to the lips.”

Coral or peach
Orangey tones are “fantastic” on women with an olive complexion, or if you’re sporting a tan (faux, preferably!).

Fuchsia
St-Laurent loves how fuchsia looks on fair skin-but only if skin is prepped first with foundation to neutralize pink tones. Avoid if you have a tan.

Blue-red
A bold, blue-toned red is the classic route to punched-up colour. Go for a cherry red in a matte finish-St-Laurent says it flatters fair, olive or dark tones.

Raspberry or violet
“These bright hues look great on darker skin tones because there’s less contrast and the result appears softer,” St-Laurent explains.

Gloss
For a really big colour boost, layer up: “Worn over lipstick, gloss intensifies the colour,” says St-Laurent. Choose a matching one with no sparkle.
