5 Steps to Perfect Post-Gym Makeup
The ‘athleisure’ trend is in full force with the arrival of the fall season. But why stop at your clothing? Here’s how to achieve perfect post-gym makeup
Post-gym makeup doesn’t have to be as hard as your workout. We asked Grace Lee, Canada’s lead makeup artist for Maybelline New York, for some tips to get gorgeous-looking skin, defined eyes and softly coloured lips.
Complexion: You want your skin to look like you aren’t wearing foundation, but still appear flawless. It’s a good idea to start with a good primer to help diminish fine lines and pores. Try: YSL Touche Eclat Blur Primer, $55
Eyes: One of the most important and often overlooked steps to achieve a ‘no-makeup makeup’ look is to always curl your eyelashes. This will really help with making your eyes appear bigger and more awake even before mascara. Try: Tweezerman Classic Lash Curler, $11
Brows: Opting for a natural look, I would make eyebrows a big focal point. Maybelline New York Eye Studio Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara, $12, is a staple because it easily accentuates brows without appearing overdone.
Lips: Always prep the lips with lip balm. For a flush of added colour, you can make any lipstick a ‘stain” by applying in the center of the lips and blotting out with your finger to create a sheer pop of colour. Try: Rimmel London Lip Conditioning Balm by Kate Moss, $8
All-over face tip: I love using the Maybelline New York Face Studio Master Glaze Blush Sticks, $12, because they’re so convenient and easy to use after the gym. My favourite shade for a natural look is ‘Warm Nude’ because you can use it on your eyes, cheeks and lips and can apply it with just your fingertips. The colour is a soft beige with a slight pearlescent finish so it will give a bit of colour and sheen to the skin, eyes and lips. Finish off the look with a few coats of mascara.
Can you take us through the steps of the Lole Women makeup look you keyed at World MasterCard Fashion Week (F/W15)?
Lole’s runway look at WMCFW was super natural and all about the skin. I began by hydrating the skin with moisturizer and followed with Maybelline New York Master Prime by Face Studio Primer in Blur + Illuminate, $13. Then I opted for Maybelline New York Dream Fresh BB Cream, $11, to perfect the skin while still giving an understated effect.
For the finishing touch, I curled the lashes and did a thin trace of black eyeliner along the lash line to help define the eyes. Maybelline New York Baby Lips in Quenched, $5, was used on the lips and also on the top of the cheekbones to give a slight dewy look to the skin.
