Easy Summer Beauty Trends to Try if You’re the Noncommittal Type
Uneasy about change? We hear you. But there are still plenty of ways to have a little fun with summer’s best beauty trends – no commitment required.
Pink hair, don’t care
Lately, hair trends on social media have been changing as fast as Facebook’s algorithm. And while there have been many iterations (rose gold hair, flamingo hair), it’s clear that pink hair is still going strong. Actress and Dancing with the Stars alum, Julianne Hough recently went pink for a short period of time, and the trend has also been seen on besties Michelle Williams and Busy Philipps, Kate Hudson and Rita Ora. If you just want to dip your toe in the trend, try got2b Head Turner in Candy Cotton ($16, schwarzkopf.ca). The temporary colour spray lasts up to three shampoos and doesn’t do any damage to your existing colour. It’s easy to use, too, and colour won’t transfer to your clothing. (Psst: Pollution may be causing your hair colour to fade faster than usual.)
Change up your nail art
Intricate nail art works best when done using shellac nail polish. However, if you don’t love the idea of the same pattern on your nails for two weeks or more, we have an easy solution. Book your usual mani appointment and choose one shade of shellac polish (here’s how to pick the best neutral for your skin tone) and take a pass on the shellac nail art. Instead of committing to one pattern or design, you can switch up your nails with a nail stamping kit like this one from MoYou London. Each kit ($37) comes with a nail art image plate, one bottle of polish and a rectangular stamp or scraper. Using the plate you apply the pattern with regular nail polish on top of your shellac base. Then seal the pattern with a clear top coat and you’re good to go. Watch the video below for a full how-to.
Tired of that pattern after a day or two? Just remove the top coat and pattern polish with normal nail polish remover and you’re back to your solid shade of shellac. Get inspired by our fave nail art photos from Instagram.
Play with colour
Lastly, don’t shy away from brights this summer. Bright, bold colours and even shades of neon can be worn from your eyes to your toes. (Just not all at once!) Try a wash of metallic on your eyelids with Quo Eye Cream in Aura ($10 at Shoppers Drug Mart), swipe Fenty Beauty Killawat Foil Freestyle Highlighter Duo in Mimosa Sunrise/Sangria Sunset ($44 at sephora.ca and fentybeauty.com) on your cheeks, or go bold on your lips with NYX Powder Puff Lippie in Group Love ($12). And, if you feel brave enough to go all in on this trend, we recommend Kat Von D Beauty 24-hour Super Brow Long-Wear Pomade in Magenta ($23 at sephora.ca and katvondbeauty.com) for stand-out brows. Feel free to play with colour. At the end of the day, it all washes off. Don’t miss the bestselling beauty products on Amazon.
