Yes, You Do Have Time for Fitness During the Holidays. Here’s How.
It is possible to fit in exercise during the holidays. Fitness expert Eva Redpath explains how.
We caught up with Eva Redpath, master trainer for Nike Canada and founder of Body Conditioning by Dancers (BCBD), for her advice on making time for fitness this season.
What do you say to those who maintain that they don’t have time to exercise over the holidays?
I totally understand that life happens and we all get sidetracked. For me, it’s not a matter of not having time but making time. A great way to stay on track with your goals is to make a calendar of all your workouts that you intend to do over the holidays. Knowing that things will come up, this allows you to see what you want to accomplish, move things around and adjust your workouts to accommodate other things in your life. It’s important to fit in workouts when you can to maintain your health. It’s better to have a short workout than no workout at all.
What are your go-to workout moves?
I love having go-to workout moves. If you’re trying to squeeze in a quick workout, it’s a great way to work up a sweat! A few moves I always do are alternating split squats, plank walks, body-weight squats and burpee throwdowns.
Nike recently revamped its popular Nike+ Training Club (NTC+) app. How can someone incorporate the NTC+ app into their training?
It’s like having a personal trainer in your pocket! You can create a workout plan that is customized to your goals, tracks your progress and incorporates activities outside of the app into your workout plan. As you go from beginner to intermediate to advanced, there are various workouts to challenge you and keep your body feeling the burn.
Can you share one of your favourite 15-minute workouts from the app?
“Watch Your Tone” is a 15-minute NTC+ full-body endurance workout that will condition your core and legs without equipment. There are a lot of workouts that offer different benefits and fitness drills that are 15 minutes or less, so there’s no reason why you can’t check them off your daily workout!
