Looks like I’m not the only one who has resolved to make fitness more fun: fusion exercise has become the hottest new workout trend, according to the Canadian Press. Not unlike fusion food (think Tex Mex sushi), fusion fitness combines different types of exercise into single action-packed classes (think Bollywood Pilates). The idea is to keep participants from getting bored with the same old routine.

Varying styles in a fitness class can also give you a better exercise experience, says Best Health’s senior web editor, Kat Tancock. She’s a big fan of combined spinning and yoga classes because ‘they force me to stretch properly and give me a whole-body workout.’

Here at Best Health, we’re big proponents of expanding the idea of what it means to exercise. After all, we’ve posted stories on everything from joining a dodgeball league to working out with a hula hoop. The bottom line is that staying fit should be fun, not a chore. So, if you hate the gym, don’t go there. That may seem simple enough, but it took me an entire guilt-ridden year to figure out that the reason I wasn’t committing to exercise was that I just didn’t like treadmills and weight machines. As it turns out, I prefer fitness classes set to AC/DC that feature air-guitar as an exercise. Finding my unique workout style was incredibly liberating. What’s yours?  Not sure?
