The Epic Cross-Canada Portage Coming This Summer

To celebrate Canada’s 150th, a team of adventurous Canadians are about to set off on a cross-country portage.
Celebrations for Canada’s 150th are gearing up. Hudson’s Bay has announced their gift to our country: a commitment to connect Trans Canada Trail’s Great Trail through a Grand Portage fundraising program.
And what better way to raise money and celebrate Canada’s 150th than an epic adventure across the country? On June 22, the Grand Portage team will start a cross-Canada journey, beginning in Victoria and ending in Nova Scotia. The end of the adventure will be celebrated on August 26 in Ottawa.
Currently, The Great Trail is 91 percent connected with 21, 500 kilometres of trail (you can follow along with its completion here). It’s the largest recreational trail in the world and stretches through virtually every landscape Canada has to offer (urban, rural and wilderness, along greenways, waterways and roadways).
Fundraising merchandise (which is also a great commemorative gift!) is now available online at thebay.com. Prices for the Grand Portage collection range from $4 to $120, with a portion of every purchase going to support the connection program. One hundred percent of the net proceeds from two limited edition items (a keepsake mini canoe paddle, $20 and a paddle keychain, $5) will go towards funding The Great Trail.
