Tip: Beat blisters from your summer sandals
Confession: I have a thing for shoes. Heels, flats, sandal, boots’ I love (and own multiple pairs of) ’em all.
Confession: I have a thing for shoes.
Heels, flats, sandal, boots’ I love (and own multiple pairs of) ’em all. In fact, I loved the ECCO sandals (shown above) that we featured on page 48 of our May issue (still on newsstands until June 12th) so much, I bought a pair of my own. And now that the weather here in Toronto is finally summery, warm and (mostly) dry, my footwear options just got a whole lot more plentiful.
The only problem? Cute shoes’especially strappy sandals, peep-toe heels, and yet-to-be-broken-in ballet flats’aren’t always kind to one’s feet. Leather rubbing against bare skin can lead to redness, irritation, chafing and blisters. So what’s a shoe-loving girl to do? Before you slip on your favourite pair, try out one of these preventative products designed to stop the pain before it starts.
Dr. Scholl’s For Her Rub Relief Strips is a roll of self-adhesive protective foam that comes in a tape-dispenser like package. Cushiony on one side and tacky on the other, simply pull out a strip of your desired length, press the button on the pack to cut the strip, and stick onto the offending part of your shoes’ they’re perfect for pesky, scratchy straps or the inside back of slightly-loose ballet flats (about $10, available at mass retailers and drugstores).
Flexitol Blistop Blister Prevention Spray is clear, odorless, spray meant to be spritzed onto to clean, dry skin to act as a protective barrier in the areas your shoes rub you the wrong way. ($11, available at Walmart, Zellers, independent drugstores, or online at www.farleyco.ca).
For even more targeted treatment, Avon Foot Works Anti-Rub Blister Stick is a handy stick of balm’made up of shea butter, petrolatum, mineral oil, and wax’that glides onto skin to reduce friction between you and your shoes. The portable stick format is easy to stash in your purse should you need to reapply ($8; available later this month through Avon Independent Sales Representatives, 1-800-265-AVON or online at www.avon.ca).
