Signed up for the flu shot?

October is Influenza Immunization Awareness month and those curious about whether influenza has a toehold in their area can keep on top of the latest news at FluWatch—Canada’s national influenza surveillance system, which is coordinated through the Centre for Infectious Disease Prevention and Control at the Public Health Agency of Canada.

So far, according to FluWatch, influenza reports are below or within the expected range for this time of year. For the latest weeks reported (Sept. 21 to Oct. 4): “Influenza activity in Canada remained low with the majority of the influenza surveillance regions reporting no activity, and seven regions (in Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario and Alberta) reported sporadic influenza activity.”

But while this year’s flu season may not yet be making health headlines yet, now is the time that people at workplaces and doctors’ offices across the country are deciding whether or not to sign up for this year’s flu shot.
