Pamela Anderson’s Not Going Vegan, After All
Canadian actress Pamela Anderson, a longtime face for PETA, isn’t going forward with her restaurant.
Why no vegan hot spot, Pam?
Canadian actress Pamela Anderson has been a PETA fixture for decades, so it was only a matter of time before she threw her weight behind a vegan restaurant… or so we thought.
The Canadian icon announced earlier this month that she had opened a no-meat-or-animal-by-product restaurant in St. Tropez with “one of her favourite chefs,” French chef Christophe Leroy.
Making vegan sexier than anyone else could, Anderson said the two would be “very focused on the aphrodisiac qualities of a plant-based diet,” and that she hopes to, “make people fall in love with each other and compassionate eating.” The pop-up restaurant would be open for 50 days during St. Tropez’s busy season and she hoped that together, they could “ignite hearts and minds to veganism.”
All sounds well and good, yes?
Apparently, things were not so good in this animal-loving paradise, because just nine days after Le Table Du Marche opened their doors, she announced she was departing from the project.
The actress and activist wrote on her site pamelaandersonfoundation.org:
I have disappointing news –
Due to circumstances out of my control-
I have to remove my name from the collaboration with Christophe Leroy-
This was a labor of love for the Animals-
to showcase a sexy vegan experience in my favorite village-
St Tropez.
It did not meet expectations or agreements-
I cannot condone the mistreatment of staff –
or complete lack of respect-
I’m extremely disappointed in this missed opportunity
but,
will keep finding creative ways to help animals and vulnerable people all over the world-
I’m sorry,
Pamela
What might have happened
Anderson clearly didn’t agree with whoever was running the show, as she noted that she “cannot condone the mistreatment of staff — or complete lack of respect.” Whether that was a lack of respect for her or others involved in the project is still up in the air.
Another big question mark: Whether the restaurant will stay open without Anderson’s support, and whether French president, Emmanuel Macron and his wife, will still visit. (Anderson had invited them to discuss asylum for her maybe boyfriend, Julian Assange.)
Since this restaurant may or may not be sticking around (and a flight to St. Tropez isn’t cheap), here are some mouth-watering vegan recipes you can make at home:
