How Oprah Changed Her Attitude About Weight Loss
The secret to Oprah’s success with her recent weight loss? It has nothing to do with calories, body image or anything like that.
Her new weight revelation
The secret to Oprah’s success with her recent weight loss? Awareness.
Oprah’s weight has fluctuated dramatically over the years – who can forget when she lugged a wagon of 67 pounds of fat on set of her show to demonstrate how much weight she’d lost. She’s one celeb whose dieting trials and tribulations we gobble up (but remember that not all celeb diets are good for you).
Oprah on Weight Watchers
Now, after all these years, and as Weight Watchers spokesperson, O told New York Times Magazine that what’s key to her current successes when it comes to her health is a level of mindfulness and consciousness she hadn’t tapped into before immersing herself into the Weight Watchers program.
She said that “this whole P.C. about accepting yourself as you are — you should, 100 percent,” but that desperate attempts at cleansing and juicing didn’t work, and she realized that consistency and remaining mindful would be a key to success. For Oprah, that awareness came through following the Weight Watchers program.
The media mogul added that self acceptance had to take into account the implications of her extra weight. She points out in her interview with the magazine that, ‘‘For your heart to pump, pump, pump, pump, it needs the least amount of weight possible to do that.” And she knew that by weighing in at over 200 pounds, it was impacting her heart health, causing high blood pressure, and putting her at risk for diabetes.
Diet schmiet!
For a woman who has tried just about every fad diet (including the banana-hot dog-egg diet and pickles-and-peanut butter diet), and has had her weight yo-yo over the decades, another key to success she shared in a January interview with People is that she doesn’t have to deprive herself of the things she loves while on her current Weight Watchers regimen. In the past, she’s touted the benefits of bread and olive oil.
Nowadays, she still eats bread and drinks wine, and accepts that she could lose more weight if she gave those things up, but she said she wouldn’t be as happy. And after all, she deserves a glass of win, and you deserve a glass of wine, and we all deserve a glass of wine. 😉
