New research from Cancer, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society has found that receiving frequent dental x-rays may increase your risk of developing meningioma’the most commonly diagnosed brain tumour in the U.S.
Dental x-rays emit ionizing radiation which is an environmental risk factor for developing meningioma (a common, but usually nn-cancerous brain tumour), reports Science Daily. Researchers of the study did note that while today’s dental x-rays do not expose patients to as much radiation as they did in the past, more awareness is needed regarding the optimal use of dental x-rays.
The Canadian Dental Association has responded to the study’s findings saying that they simply underscore a decreasing and already well-known risk associated with dental x-rays.
