We turn the clocks back this weekend and frankly, I’m not ready to face the great winter darkness. But I do rather enjoy that extra hour that the end of daylight savings time allows. Ask me what I plan to do with that extra 60 minutes and I’ll tell you without a moment’s hesitation that I will spend it sleeping. According to a survey conducted by Leger Marketing and Elli Lilly, I’m not alone. The results reveal that more than 50 percent of Canadians plan to catch some extra shut-eye during the bonus hour on Sunday. Interestingly, only 5  percent of those surveyed plan to spend that time having sex with their partners.

To be honest, it doesn’t really surprise me that more sleep-deprived Canadians are saying "Not tonight, honey," in favour of catching some extra z’s. According to Statistics Canada, people who work full-time sleep an average of 24 minutes less than those not in the work force. As well, you’ll sleep an average of 25 minutes less each night if you have two kids than people who don’t have children. Add to that the fact that 25 percent of Canadians over the age of 15 regularly have trouble dozing off and you’ll know why we’re choosing sleep over nookie. We’re exhausted! So leave us alone already, surveys. We’re trying to sleep.

What will you do with your extra hour this Sunday?
