News: Nike and Athletics Canada unveil new uniforms for Canada’s track and field athletes

Canada’s Track and Field athletes will be sporting sleek black uniforms from Nike at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Track and Field athletes Justyn Warner (100m and 4 x 100m relay), Phylicia George (100m hurdler) and Sarah Wells (400m hurdler) were at the Nike flagship store in Toronto to model the new designs (see above).

Using zoned aerodynamics based on wind tunnel data, Nike’s Project Swift apparel is designed to reduce aerodynamic drag and provide minimized distraction with smooth seams and no bulkiness.

“The key to our design principle is superior lightweight performance,” says Nike Creative Director Scott Williams. “The innovations that we have utilized in these new designs can help make the athlete faster.”

And it gets better, the uniforms promote environmental sustainability, made from an average of 82 percent recycled polyester fabric and 13 recycled plastic bottles.

The collection also includes the Nike Pro TurboSpeed suit, the lightest, fastest track uniform Nike has ever created. The suit is up to 0.023 seconds faster over 100m than Nike’s previous track uniform ‘ which could mean the difference between medalling or not.

Hopefully these new uniforms will serve our athletes well as they compete at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
