News: Heart Attack Grill customer dies of a heart attack

Heart Attack Grill isn’t just the name of this restaurant, it’s also a serious health warning.

John Alleman, 52, has died after he suffered a heart attack while waiting at a bus stop in front of the Heart Attack Grill, reports the Las Vegas Sun. Alleman reportedly went to the Las Vegas diner daily, and had become somewhat of an unofficial mascot. He even had a caricature on the restaurant’s menus and merchandise.

According to Fox News (via The Globe and Mail), the average meal at the grill easily exceeds 8,000 calories. So is it really a surprise that patrons of this restaurant, whose logo features the slogan "Taste…worth dying for!" are having health issues? In 2012, one woman collapsed while dining at the restaurant, and another man reportedly suffered a heart attack while eating a "triple bypass burger."

The entire atmosphere of Heart Attack Grill pokes fun at obesity and unhealthy eating. Servers are dressed in nurses uniforms, customers are cast as patients and the menu features items such as the "double bypass burger, "triple bypass burger" and "flatliner fries.”

Health Canada has put a cap on the amount of caffeine allowed in a single serving. Should there be a cap on the number of calories fast-food restaurants are allowed to serve in a single meal?
