Say Goodbye to Painful Migraines With the Help of This Simple Chart
You don’t have to suffer in silence, or in the dark. Here are ways you can keep control of your migraine triggers.
Is there anything you can do about your migraines? “There are a number of simple lifestyle modifications you can make to take control of migraines,” says Dr. Christine Lay, a neurologist and director of the Centre for Headache at Women’s College Hospital.
Migraine Management Tip: Beware of Developing Chronic Headaches
On top of drinking lots of water, not skipping meals (especially breakfast), getting enough sleep, exercise and monitoring how much caffeine you get and other things, you can do more, suggests Dr. Lay. Know that taking meds for headaches too often can be an issue. Migraineurs are at risk for developing chronic headaches when they overuse over-the-counter pain medications, such as ibuprofen (Advil) and acetaminophen (Tylenol), and prescription drugs for pain. “When those medications are used two days a week on a regular basis, over time they can actually increase the frequency of headaches,” says Dr. Lay, “and we call that ‘medication-overuse headache.’”
