When it comes to living a greener lifestyle, making just a few small changes can make a big impact on the environment and your health. Best Health editor-in-chief Beth Thompson was a guest on CHCH Morning Live to give these green and healthy lifestyle tips.
1. Toss the harsh disinfectant and antibacterial cleaners.
When it comes to a clean home, eliminating all bacteria isn’t healthy. Instead, Thompson says to clean with a gentler option: vinegar.
2. Avoid refined sugars.
Sure, sugar is not good for teeth or the waistline, but the processing of refined sugar is also tough on the environment. Opt for more natural sweeteners and fruits.
3. Eat less meat.
By eating more plant-based protein (aka earthatarian), you’ll reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
4. Stop using plastic water bottles.
By refilling your own steel or glass water bottle, you’ll save not only waste, but you’ll reduce your exposure to hormone-disrupting plastics.
5. Put down your keys.
Pick up a helmet. Not only is biking good for your body, but by not producing car emissions, it’s good for the environment too.
