This Is The Popular Celebrity Diet Lea Michele Swears By
Lea Michele isn’t the only hot Hollywood celeb following this strict diet. Find out what it is and if you should be trying this diet, too.
The trendy diet that Lea Michele eats
Between Keto, The Zone Diet, the 5-Factor Diet and The South Beach Diet, there have been a lot of eating plans that have gained (and lost) popularity in Hollywood over the years.
While many rose to fame and fell just as quickly, one diet has remained popular: Veganism.
Actress Lea Michele is the latest to sing its praises to usmagazine.com, but she’s certainly not the only one. Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lopez, Liam Hemsworth and Ellen DeGeneres are just a few of the stars who follow an animal-free eating plan. (Even Kylie Jenner dabbled with the vegan diet.)
What exactly is veganism?
As a reminder, following a vegan diet means you don’t eat any meat or animal by-products, including dairy and eggs. It’s often followed by animal activists — who extend the rules to other areas of their life (e.g., no leather) — and those who are concerned about the effects of animal farming on the environment. (What can you eat on a vegan diet? Here’s a seven-day vegan meal plan.)
There are also those who follow a vegan diet for more superficial reasons – like staying trim.

Michele says she keeps her home “completely vegan” which she thinks is “one of the most important things.” Her logic totally makes sense. If it’s out of sight, it’s out of mind, or at least out of reach. Michele says “If you keep your home healthy, then, when you’re reaching for snacks, you’re not reaching for bad things. So, I stock it with fruits and vegetables.” (Here are some vegan breakfast ideas to get you started.)
Liam Hemsworth agrees, reports Glamour. The star switched to a vegan diet in 2015 and never looked back. In addition to fighting the mistreatment of animals, Hemsworth says “There are no negatives to eating like this. I feel nothing but positive, mentally and physically. I love it.”
Like Hemsworth, superstar Jennifer Lopez feels much better when she’s following a vegan diet. While she admits to missing butter, she says she has way more energy and that she “loves that she’s eating more greens.” (Also, you must try this decadent, indulgent, super creamy vegan soup.)
All about veganism
If you’re considering following suit, there are a few things you should know:
- Start slowly. Meatless Monday is popular for a reason. Victoria Moran, author of the book Main Street Vegan recommends removing one kind of animal from your diet at a time or keeping a vegan home (like Michele). From there, you can work your way to completely eliminating all animal-based foods.
- Think about protein, but don’t worry about it. Most of us already eat a lot of protein-rich foods besides meat. Quinoa, nuts, and tofu are all good sources of protein. You can also try adding a protein powder to your smoothies or oatmeal.
- Don’t replace meat and cheese with bread and pasta. It can be tempting, but if you’re going to go vegan, it’s important you focus on plants (fruits and vegetables) rather than starches. (Check out these vegan sources of protein, too!)
