With so many fashion leggings in stores, we asked Camille Prins, the Toronto-based leggings designer for Dutch Blonde, for style pointers. ‘Faux leather looks sleek and sexy,’ says Prins. ‘For a night out, wear them with a flowing silk blouse, statement necklace and belted black jacket.’ For a casual look, throw on a cable-knit sweater. She recommends neutral tops and suede ankle boots with floral leggings, and says you can give metallic leggings a rock ‘n roll edge with a long vest. For those who feel they don’t have the right figure for leggings, she advises, ‘Try a waistband hitting around the belly button. It’s amazing how confident you feel when this area is smoother.‘ Flattering leggings include ‘bandage’ style (e.g., the teal pair below) since the material is thicker; Prins wears hers with a blazer and beaded top. And a heel is always elongating.
Leggings, left to right: Floral knit (Minimum, $25). Teal bandage knit (Dutch Blonde, $95). Faux leather with knit tuxedo stripe (H&M, $40). Metallic gold and sheer black (Dutch Blonde, $95).
