Some great news from Brita: they’re now accepting used filters to be recycled by Preserve into a variety of products, such as toothbrushes, cups, cutting boards and even plastic lumber. Just follow these steps:
‘ Dry filters thoroughly by shaking off excess water and setting in a dry place for at least three days.
‘ Wrap filters in a plastic grocery bag, then pack in a box and prepare for shipping. Boxes and grocery bags will be recycled. If possible, send multiple filters at a time.
‘ Mail filters via ground shipping to:
Brita Canada Corp.
PO Box 140 STN LCD Malton
Mississauga, ON L4T 9Z9
100 percent of each filter casing will be recycled, and the filter ingredients themselves will be regenerated for alternative use or converted into energy.
According to Brita, the benefits of recycling the filters outweigh the the impact of shipping them for recycling. So get collecting! Maybe this can be the next eco project for your kids’ school or your workplace. Find out more at filterforgood.ca.
