I love my mom more than words can say. Having kids of my own has only increased my awe. She turned 64 this year, and all I want is to spend another 20 or 30 years getting to know her better.
With that in mind, what better gift for Mother’s Day than to give health, joy and longevity? Here are a few gift ideas with a Best Health twist. (I’m assuming that, like me, you’re going shopping tomorrow!)
Walking poles: My hiking friends swear by these, and they help moms burn 30 percent more calories while walking. Plus, they take the pressure off older knees, especially on uphill walks.
A day at the market: Why not give the gift of time, treat your mom to lunch and then pick up a load of extra virgin olive oils, artisanal cheeses and antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables? (Personally, I’m still trying to convince my mom to use real garlic instead of the powdered variety!)
Eco-friendly lipstick: Cargo’s PlantLove cosmetics let you plant the box when you’re done with it, to grow wildflowers. Wonderful!
Homemade, low-fat treats: Indulge her sweet tooth without exposing her to harmful, heartbreaking saturated and trans fats.
A handwritten love letter: Skip the Hallmark section this year and tell your mom in your own words why she’s your hero. It will do both your souls good!
Of course, you could also get her a gift subscription to Best Health!
However you choose to celebrate, we’re wishing you a weekend full of fun and love!
