Watch a Garden Grow

Burlington, ON, September 8

In an effort to show the health and social benefits of eating locally grown foods, the Royal Botanical Gardens is kicking off its Veggie Village on Wednesday. The 100-mile garden consists of a variety of gardening styles and ways that just might inspire you to grow your own veggies, like in the picture shown above. The launch is a garden party, of course, starting at 4 p.m., with a musical performance by Juno-award winner Jack de Keyzer at 6 p.m.

Go for a walk or a run

Moncton, NB, September 4

The CARA Runs 4 You, a family event that supports the Crisis and Referral Agency, includes a walk or run for any and all fitness levels, including 1-K, 5-K and 10-K distances. And kids under 12 years of age can participate for free. The race will take you through the trails (including the TransCanada Trail) along the Petitcodiac River in Moncton’s Riverfront Park. Register by September 2nd here

Try a triathlon in the mountains

Whistler, BC, September 5

If you were going to do an off-road triathlon, do it in Whistler, well-known for skiing. At the La Terra XTerra Canada triathlon, you would swim a 750-metre lap in Alta Lake, mountain bike for 15 kilometres, and run 4.5 kilometres. Registration closes September 4.
