We’re half way through January and many of us are struggling to hold on to those New Year’s resolutions. If your goal this year is to quit smoking, National Non-Smoking Week (NNSW) may be just what you need to get on track.

Hosted by the Canadian Council for Tobacco Control, NNSW is now underway until January 22, 2011. This year’s theme is: "There are hundreds of reasons to quit… what’s yours?"  People are being encouraged to butt out and to share their motivations for quitting.

Now in its 34th year, NNSW is one of Canada’s longest running health efforts. The event works to educate Canadians about the dangers of smoking, to help people quit smoking and to promote the right of individuals to breath air unpolluted by tobacco smoke.

Many studies have shown that smokers respond most positively to messages that tell them why they should quit. Smokers looking to leave the pack behind can turn to the NNSW campaign website for reasons to quit and links to journal articles that provide more information. This year’s National Non-Smoking Week is also using the power of the Internet, wtih many smokers tweeting their reasons for quitting.

What are your reasons to butting out?  Do you have any tips to share?
