Eat up to slim down

Did you ignore your mother when she used to tell you that breakfast is the most important meal of the day? Well, she just might have been onto something.
According to US researcher Dr. Daniela Jakubowicz from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond a smaller breakfast may actually increase the occurrence of food cravings among dieters.
According to her study, obese women who ate half their daily calories in the morning were able to lose more weight than those who spread their calories out throughout the day.
In fact, at the end of the eight-month period, the women eating a hearty breakfast lost a fifth of their total body weight on average, compared to less than five percent for the other dieters.
According to the report from Dr. Jakubowicz, the bigger breakfast helped by making people feel more full and satisfied during the day, and was healthier because it allowed more fibre and fruit to be consumed.
Of course, a “bigger breakfast” doesn’t mean it’s now diet friendly to chow down on fast food breakfast sandwiches and chocolate croissants or anything (darn!).
Instead, try to have a daily breakfast that’s high in fibre, protein and vitamins.
That’ll teach you to listen to your mom!
