Deck of Scarlet Beauty Subscription Service Arrives in Canada

Come January, the only mail we tend to receive is a credit card statement. But this January, there’s promise of something way better. Makeup-palette subscription service Deck of Scarlet is now expanding into Canada. Since its launch in the fall, the New York-based company has received glowing reviews from U.S. outlets such as Refinery29, Glamour, WWD, Allure and People. To kick-off its Canadian launch, Deck of Scarlet partnered with Canadian YouTube Beauty Expert Sonjdra Deluxe on their latest palette – which happens to be the first one available to Canadians.

Here’s how the service works:
• Every two months, a limited edition makeup palette will be delivered directly to your door with all the products you need to create the featured looks. (For example: Date Night, Casual and Artistic)
• You don’t need to be a beauty expert. Each palette features an “Artist-in-Chief” (like Sonjdra Deluxe) with tips and tutorials.
• The cost is $29.95 USD every two months (plus $7 shipping). The fluctuating conversion rate could be a point of frustration, BUT the products included have a value of $150. You’ll also get a preview of the palette before it ships and you can choose to opt out of one if you’re not feeling it.

While some beauty subscription services have been unsuccessful in their attempts to enter the Canadian market (e.g. Birchbox), others (e.g. Ipsy) have found a way to make it work. We think Deck of Scarlet will fall into the latter group. For starters, the company isn’t waiting when it comes to their Canadian expansion. They launched in the U.S. just two months ago! Plus, by partnering with Sonjdra Deluxe they’re showing that they care about Canadian talent: the Canuck beauty expert has more than 700K subscribers on YouTube and calls Vancouver home. If you’re looking to sample new beauty brands, this isn’t the subscription for you. But if you’re looking to brush up on your makeup application skills and try out a new look, you’ll love the tutorials and custom product offered here. Chances are your makeup bag could use a few new additions or you might need to replace some expired products. Any excuse, right?
