If you or your family members suffer from allergies or asthma, you’re familiar with the challenge of making your house allergen-free (or as close to it as possible). Adding to it is the difficulty of judging which products are really safe, and which manufacturers you can trust.
The Asthma Society of Canada is making things easier with their seal of approval for asthma- and allergy-friendly products (pictured at left). They’re working with independent researchers at a group called Allergy Standards Limited to test household products for allergen levels, and the latest group of products they’ve certified is a variety of pillows, duvets and mattress protectors at major Canadian retailers. “By selecting the right bedding and by taking a few preventative steps every week, you can make a major impact in reducing allergens in the bedroom,” says Dr. O’Mahony, president of Allergy Standards Limited.
The bedding lines recently certified include:
• Microshield bedding (available at Sears)
• Distinctly Home bedding (available at The Bay)
• Healthy Home bedding (available at Home Outfitters)
• Breatheclear pillows (available at Wal-Mart)
