Beauty Trend: Summer Nail Colour Update

In our March/April 2010 issue Staff-Test article, we tried out trendy spring nail colours in Easter egg-inspired pastel hues. Now that spring is past and summer’s gearing up, I’ll be setting the lovely lilac shade I tested aside in favour of something even more dreamy. My new shades of choice are escapist in nature: pale sky blues, cool lagoon greens, and a shimmering sheer aqua that reminds me of sunlight reflecting on ocean waves.

As has been the case with most nail polish trends of late, the shade that epitomizes the look comes from style-setting fashion design house Chanel. "Nouvelle Vague" is a clear watery blue-green with subtle shimmer. Essie’s "Turquoise & Cacaos" is, as the name implies, reminiscent of the colour of Caribbean Sea. For a more subtle take, Sephora By OPI "Havana Dreams" is a cool baby blue, perfect for a day spent cloud-gazing. But, the most fun of all is found in the Nicole By OPI bottle of translucent aqua lacquer, full of floating specs of iridescent glitter. Surf’s up!
