A new product came into our office that seemed worthy of a mention here. It might be the answer the next time you get one of those notes home from your kid’s school that reads: “There’s been an infestation of lice“. Who doesn’t get the urge to itch their head’and then immediately start checking their kids’ hair when that note comes home?
There are remedies once you have lice and even companies that will come to your house and comb and pick the little devils out of your child’s hair. There’s also lots of tips for ways to help keep them from jumping into their hair in the first place. I’ve personally tried loads of gel and tea tree oil. (Though there was the 2006 incident where my husband and I left for a two week vacation the day after two of my son’s came home from school with lice and my mother had to deal with the fallout, I’m still paying her back for that one!).
Lice Shield Shampoo & Conditioner in 1 and Lice Shield Leave-In Spray (both $10.49) by Lornamead (best known for Finesse and Yardley London beauty products) is a good one to add to your prevention arsenal. Both are meant to repel lice and contain natural essential oils including citronella, eucalyptus and rosemary. And they are gentle and can be used every day on kids sensitive scalps and skin. The company claims they provide up to 80 percent repellency. It’s available at Shoppers Drugmart, Wal-Mart, Zellers and Loblaws stores.
